G324 Evaluation Q3

When I first started thinking about my music video and what I wanted to do I created a quick questionnaire so that I could understand what my target audience knows about the specific genre.  I asked questions to do with performance, the target audience, the bands related to the genre, other types of music he enjoys and why he likes the genre. After doing the interview I understood that perhaps I needed some sort of performance in my video since a lot of songs and videos from this genre have performance in their music videos.

My Pitch was particularly important because this allowed me to get feedback about my ideas, which was essential for my music video and digipak ideas. Using negative and positive feedback from others allowed me to shape my music video into something that not only pleased myself but also pleased my target audience.

All of these ideas were shown to my class mates so that I could get constructive critism and feedback for good points and bad points of my ideas and my music video at the early stages. When I asked the audience about whether I should include narrative in my music video, they decided that if I felt that I didn't like it then I should not include it as it may not look good since I won't enjoy filming it. So I decided to include backstage and band performance instead as this would enhance the fun, relaxed feel to the video.

I decided to post a link of my music video from YouTube as this allowed me to get feedback from people not only from my target audience but also of people my own age so that I could get the most feedback I could. Alot of people left comments that were good feedback and also feedback which included what I did well ie; black and white effects and the tempo of the editing to fit the song and this allowed me to review my music video because I looked at what wasn't said about my video and decided whether it needed changing or not.

Overall the feedback I got was good, other than when I showed my music video to a few people they believed some of the shots could have been slowed down a little or that some of the editing left quick flashes between each scene so I needed to refine the gaps between each shot.
The aspects of my video that the audience liked the most included the difference between band shot and other shots, the fast editing and the variety in shots and zooms that I used.
Things people didn't like so much were that some of the shots were quite dark so you were unable to see what was happening properly in some of the shots.
Overall I believe I have created a good video that shows a range of shots, editing techniques etc, but there were some aspects of my video which I wished I had done better, such as some of the shots which I did which would have looked better if they were a little steadier. And also, I wish I had made sure some of the editing was a little better between shots as there were second long gaps that occured sometimes.

G324 Evaluation Q2

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks?

My work does look like a music video because of the input of the band and the fun feel to the entire video. The effects I used also help to show the professional look also because in real music video's black and white is often used.  The ancillary tasks also represent real media products because they look professional. If people believe they look amateur that could also work because of the relaxed fun feel to the music video so fans can also connect to the other products as well as the video.

I believe my video is a music video you would see on Kerrang! because of the relaxed, rock feel to the song and video much like All Time Low's 'Lost In The Stereo'. The song and Band Of Skulls have been recognised by Kerrang! in the past so I believe this would also be a contributing factor to the placement of the video on the music channel. The backstage feel to my video helps because it looks professional but relaxed, like alot of music videos shown on Kerrang!

I believe my digipak looks like an album you would see in HMV
because it looks simple yet professional like alot of other album covers we have seen like Band Of Skulls 'Baby Darling Doll Face Honey' their album cover is simple but is also quite abstract because of the paint mirror effect they have used on their album cover. My advertisement also looks like one you'd see in Kerrang! magazine because it features the band alot like other advertisements do and also connects to the main video and album cover.

They all look like part of the same product because of the band and clips from the video on the digipak and the signs on the magazine so they all connect to each other in some sort of way. The use of sings has created brand identity for the band so that the fans recognise the signs from the video straight away. The use of the same actors for the video, advertisement and digipak also helps for the fans to recognise the products. The colours in the video are vibrant alot like the splattered paint on the digipak and magazine advertisement again creating a fun feel to the entirety of the products. The text works along side the genre because of the scruffy amateur feel to alternate rock. Again the theme was fun and relaxed like the band are in the music video so I portrayed this on all three products. The only things I dislike about my products is the digipak as I believe I could have formatted certain parts to look better, but overall I think the products are effective and all look professional.
